ABOUT THIS PIECE
This is a half inch scale miniature modern round vase in my favorite metallic silver mirror glaze.

ABOUT
Maddie’s miniatures are a craft taught to her from her aunt, nationally recognized miniaturist Jane Graber. Maddie creates these tiny pieces using a wheel she built herself, her fingers and a needle tool. Each piece is handcrafted, one of a kind, and primarily in half inch scale. You can read more about her process and about her upcoming shows at her website www.madelinegerig.com

ARTIST STATEMENT

Each body has its ticks and quirks, creases, shrugs, inflections and smirks. Unknowingly, we reveal ourselves through our own visual language, a visual language that is built on our joys, traumas and impulses.

I am interested in capturing an imperfect gestural moment: a glimpse of authenticity. Sweeping strokes and quiet forms build the personality of each of my pieces and demonstrate my own search for authenticity and delight. I revel in the contrast between fine craft, precision and impulse.

My work is the process of searching for the root of something very human and very tender.
